Standard Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) workflows excel on clean, uniformly structured pages, but historical records rarely behave so neatly. This focused session tackles materials that actively resist standard pipelines—physically damaged substrates, chaotic layouts, non-linear marginalia, and multi-layered bureaucratic records. Across six dynamic presentations, researchers share field-tested strategies for pushing past baseline transcription to conquer complex layouts, integrate generative models, and extract structured knowledge from difficult sources.
