We, the research software engineers at the Ghent Centre for Digital Humanities (GhentCDH), dive deep into the fascinating world of Digital Humanities at Ghent University. From aiding access to ancient artifacts to mining the mysteries of medieval texts, we’re all about using tech to explore the humanities. Our team offers support and advice on digital tools and does custom development work, ensuring that every project can reach its full potential.
Recently, two talented student developers have significantly contributed to our projects. Islam Bekov focused on Docker DevOps: restructuring projects into easily runnable, dockerized applications. His work has streamlined the development and deployment process of several complex projects. By containerizing these projects, Islam has ensured they are more future-proof and easier to manage. At GhentCDH DevOps is all about providing a robust infrastructure that supports the diverse needs of digital humanities research.
Meanwhile, Jahid Chetti brought his expertise in Vue.js to develop a reusable text annotation and visualization component. This component is a much needed asset for various projects working with text, allowing researchers to annotate and visualize textual data seamlessly. Jahid’s work has enhanced our ability to analyze and present complex annotation information, making it more interactive and user-friendly. This component not only saves development time for future projects but aims to elevates the overall quality of text annotations and research outputs.
As always, the work at GhentCDH in general and the specific contributions of Islam and Jahid is released as Open Source software and can be found on the GhentCDH GitHub Page.
