Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) are tools for machine transcription of documents. This workshop will provide a comprehensive introduction to HTR and OCR, cover the basics of image preprocessing, feature extraction, and classification. We will also discuss the limitations of these technologies and how to evaluate their performance. Hands-on exercises will be conducted through a notebook which allows participants to gain practical experience and apply it to historical documents.
A laptop is needed for this workshop. This workshop is designed for master's and Ph.D. students who are transcribing handwritten sources.
