Corpus of Southern Dutch Dialects (GCND)

The parsed corpus of Southern Dutch Dialects (GCND) a linguistically annotated corpus currently under construction. It is based on existing dialect recordings from the 1960s and 1970s. The corpus provides audio aligned transcriptions in two layers, one closer to the dialect and one closer to Standard Dutch, both which are part-of-speech and syntactically tagged. The corpus is meant to facilitate large-scale research into particularities of the southern Dutch dialects.

The GCND is currently being created within the ΔiaLing research group at Ghent University with the support of the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO), by a small research grant 1.5.310.18N to A. Breitbarth, and grants from the provinces of Zeeland (NL), East Flanders and West Flanders. The funding for the transcription of most French Flemish tapes comes from postdoctoral grant FWO 12P7919N to M. Farasyn. From June 2020, the project will be supported by the FWO infrastructure grant I.0.101.20N.
